My mother was born in Alpena, Michigan, one of six children, three girls and three boys with her being the only one now still living as we heard the news of her sister Milly's passing on Christmas eve morning.
My Mother's Last Remaining Sister Passed Away
On August 8th, this year we took a four-day vacation to see mom's sister in Palm Desert, Ca. There she welcomed Sophie, my cat as well to stay with us in her home. She was always good to us and always there for my mother in the midst of my mother's own many health problems over the years. The fondest recollection from childhood is the name she would call me, 'professor' for some unknown reason. I am very grateful we made that trip to Palm Desert for that was the last time my mother saw her sister alive.
My mother's family consisted of six children with two sisters; Magdaline and Mildred and three brothers; Ralph, Clayton, and Richard all having passed away at this time. Her elder sister, Magdaline died three years ago at ninety two with Mildred just passing at ninety one. Everyone knew the three sisters: Magdaline the eldest, Mildred the middle girl and my mother Jane the youngest. The feelings of emptiness will never go away as we loved her very much and my mother is very lost this christmas season. She now has no one alive, family or friends. I know the shock has not sunk into our minds or hearts that it is real as of yet... but it will have to. I am just very fearful of the impact on my mother's health, mentally and physically at this time and am trying to find ways to keep her busy, alert and retain the will to enjoy her life to the best of her ability while not becoming overwhelmed myself.
Mom's sister Milly's birthday was just last week, when mom called her. She left two sons, Carl and Richard who always took great care of her, providing her with her own home as well as daily meals as she always wanted to live alone. She had a beautiful life.
