If you have ever had a home built you'll understand this poem I created
concerning the construction of this home. It was months late and approximately
one hundred thousand dollars over the budget estimated. I lived in the
downstairs accessory apartment while they were trying to complete the home.
So it goes and here is my poem concerning this experience of building this home.
The Process of Construction
by Allen
The day is approaching when our home will be done!
Although living inside a rented room can be so much fun.
The excitement is buildign as it gets closer each day.
But, "when can we move in" is what I ask Builder Ray?
While waiting for an answer the subject seems changed.
"Just look at the talented contractors which I have arranged."
"Yes, they're splendid I agree," as I exclaim with a smile.
"But how long will I be homeless, will it be a long while?"
As Ray hims and he haws it just seems so absurd.
'Tis then comes the silence, not nary a word.
Till breaking the spell bellows tile layer Dan.
"Come over here Al, can you give me a hand?"
"With pleasure" I retort, what more can I do?
Pick up mortar in Denver? And you need tile too?
As a list I am handed which I stodgily unfurl.
As I'm on route to Denver, headed for "Tile World."
Sexteen bags of mortar loaded, great exercise indeed!
I feel so honored to be of help, I feel such a dweeb!
Only seven hours later and my mission is now done.
I return with the goods and I'm ready for more fun.
But our home seems so quiet, there's something not right!
Has everyone gone home? Have they all bid goodnight?
For there's a moral to this story that I want you to know.
If you decide there is a state where you might want to go.
Buy a shirt made of plaid when first you arrive there.
Get some boots and a big buckle and then cut your hair.
For nothing can delay the process of construction.
Like a boy from the city who needs no introduction.
Allen
