NORTHRIDGE, Calif. After an 18-month hiatus following the closure of Griffith Observatory, the popular LASERIUM Laser Show - an L.A. icon for nearly three decades - returns to the Southland at California State University Northridge in the heart of the Valley. LASERIUM will premiere at the DONALD E. BIANCHI PLANETARIUM on the CSUN campus Friday October 10 with a 17-show schedule, Thursday thru Sunday, Complete show information is available on the LASERIUM hotline, 818 997-3624 or at www.laserium.com. Advance and group tickets will be available at the CSUN Associated Students Box Office at 818 677-2488 during business hours and from TicketMaster.
According to LASERIUM creator and CEO Ivan Dryer, this new location offers another outlet for the millions of fans of the original Laser Shows - many of whom call or email continually for opening date information - while planning continues for the multimedia, interactive CYBERDOME, which is expected to debut in Hollywood next year. "This is a great opportunity for all the Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Beatles LASERIUM Show veterans to experience the nostalgia once again - and for a new generation to see what the original LASERIUM phenomenon was all about", Dryer said. He continued, "Though the Bianchi Planetarium is a smaller venue than Griffith Observatory, which was one of the world's largest, audiences will still enjoy the mix of classic music and dazzling laser effects that will appear even brighter on the smaller dome surface - plus, we have some special surprises in store!" He stressed that patrons should arrive early, because there won't be nearly as much room as before - seating is definitely limited.
In addition to the ever-popular rock shows, including perennial favorite "Dark Side of the Moon", special 6:00 weekend matinees will offer the family-friendly LASER AMAZEMENT. Narrated by radio personality Jim Ladd, it features entertaining information about light, lasers and laser shows, as well as a mix of music ranging from Boston to The Beatles and Corelli to The Cure, with a dash of Red Hot Chili Peppers, all at discounted ticket prices.
Parking for the evening LASERIUM Shows at CSUN is conveniently located on campus lot G-4 off Zelzah Ave. between Nordhoff and Lassen on the east side of the University, which is about 3 miles west of the 405 Nordhoff exit. On arrival, look west into the campus for the LASERIUM sign at the Planetarium.
Parking is free on weekends, including Friday after 6 PM. On weekdays, Monday thru Thursday, permits must be purchased for $4 at the Campus Information Booths located near Darby Avenue and Prairie Street, Lindley Avenue and Nordhoff Street, or Plummer Street and Zelzah Avenue. Permits may be also purchased at the solar-powered automated yellow permit dispensers at the west side of lot G4. Permits must be visible.
